ABOUT US
|
Prompted by the continuing requests for information
on the surviving family members of wartime evacuees from Burma, two of
our founding members purchased and transcribed three files from the
British Library comprising thousands of records of the survivors and
casualties. We have since published a transcribed copy of the official
report on the evacuation. This collection of work is the foundation of and
gives ethos to The Anglo-Burmese Library.
We envisage the library becoming the foremost access point for anyone requiring first hand information on a wide range of subjects relating to colonial-era Burma and it will identify, unify, and make available biographical records which relate to the multicultural community whose home was Burma. The library will consist of two parts. This web-site is the first part, our intention is that it can be easily searched and our aim is to identify the source files clearly in a way that will be useful for the public and academia alike. The second part of the library will be the repository, consisting initially of the collection of biographical files from the National Archives in Myanmar, but will eventually expand to contain all printed and other material which contains relevant and useful biographical information both from Burma and elsewhere. |
