INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR EVACUATION UNDER
1. As soon as you know that you are leaving on a Govt. convoy, acquit yourself of your duties to others, your servants and animals. 2. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF JOURNEY : train Maymyo to Monywa: rest camp: river steamer up Chindwin: rest camp: walk from camp to camp in short stages for a number of days: motor bus from camp to camp to Railway Station in India: by rail to reception base: dispersal by train to destinations in India. Temporary arrangements will be made in India by Govt. for those who have no private arrangements. ALL IS FREE including simple food. 3. You must make your own way to your assembly post at Maymyo Railway Stn. arriving punctually by 10 o’clock pm on 25th February, or as detailed later. 4. KIT: the maximum allowed for each adult & each child is 60 lbs. but it cannot be guaranteed that all this will be carried the full distance. 5. Have a meal at your own home: pack sandwiches etc. for the journey in the train and spare water bottle. 6. CLOTHES: it is suggested that your wear long sleeved shirt and long trousers or other clothes covering arms and legs, as a protection day and night, against mosquito bites. Wear a topee; thick socks and strong walking shoes or boots. 7. CARRY for yourself and those in your charge who are incapable of carrying kit, the following minimum:- 8. PACK: according to the following instructions; This list is not comprehensive and if you do not possess some of the items use your own discretion in putting in substitutes: remember total weight of your pack is 60 lbs. only. Suit cases are Not convenient & are heavy: better tie up your things in sack, kit bag or shan bag, or rolled in blanket as a bedding roll. Label each bundle with the name of the head of your family travelling. 9. The journeys will be made at Govt. expense to final destination in India, but bring money at your discretion. 10. MEDICAL: medical comforts are arranged for the journey. Those who do not produce evidence of protection against typhoid etc. etc. are liable to be inoculated etc. after starting. 11. SERVICE: servants, provided they are eligible under the scheme and accepted for evacuation will be under the orders of Govt. for giving service to the personnel of the Convoy in general. Adults will be called upon to look after their own family and help others. 12. CAMPS: huts are erected. Each camp has a staff who will prepare simple hot food, e.g. tea, soup, rice and boiled water for water bottles. 13. EVACUATION PASS: will be issued to each head of family for admission to Railway carriages and compartments. Compartments are allotted irrespective of Class.
