Message Boards/Tracing People
For general discussion on family history in Burma please use our ABL Forum on this website.
If you are searching for someone who may still be living, contact us, we also recommend Planet Burma (lost relatives) which is known to be effective at finding people.
Given the historic close connection between Burma and Siam we do collect incidental records relating to Siam, especially BMD's for the 19th century. The Andaman Islands BMD returns were always included in the Burma returns and so we feel justified in including these Islands in our remit. We do not answer questions regarding India, which is already very well catered for.
ABL Members - looking for the descendants of the following:-
Charles Mealin
A retired Chief Supdt. of Customs at Rangoon and died in 1962, he divorced his first wife and married a lady called Mah Ohn (she was also married before and had a son) they moved from Rangoon to Moulmein, eventually they had a daughter together. Question, would the descedents of Mah Ohn still be around in Moulmein and how might they be contacted - their half brother Ivan who lives in the USA would like to get in touch with them via the ABL.
Henry Smyth
"My maternal grandparents were William John Smyth, a British administrator and Daw Myaing. Both died in Kalaw in 1938 and 1945 respectively. They had three children – Olive born in ..., John Ignatius, born ,,, (both in Rangoon) and Henry, born not too long after that I imagine but can find no record of his birth. He later changed his name to ...... John worked for the Burma Corporation in Namtu and married Ruby ....... in 1938 in ....... They had at least one child. They evacuated in 1942 and apparently returned to Burma after the War. Both uncles apparently joined the Burma Army.
Question, should Henry be reading this, your family in the UK would very much like to get in touch with you via the ABL.
